Tyler Boyd: Catching form at the right time
The 28-year-old is establishing himself in MLS with recent performances for the LA Galaxy
During the Galaxy’s 1-0 loss to Charlotte FC in late May, Tyler Boyd broke his left hand early in the second half. He was doubtful to play in LA’s following game on the road against Real Salt Lake. He went to coach Greg Vanney and insisted on being part of the squad for this tough road match despite the broken hand. He ended up scoring the game-winning goal in a match he possibly could’ve watched at home.
Since that game, he’s been wearing a bandage and scoring goals to make the Galaxy one of the hottest teams in MLS. In the nine regular season games following the road win against RSL, the Galaxy has lost just one game.
In his last five games, Boyd has four goals and one assist. Notable goals such as the opening goal against LAFC at the Rose Bowl and against last season’s Eastern Conference Champions, the Philadelphia Union.
Following Friday’s training session, Boyd told me he’ll soon be without the brace/bandage he’s been wearing for the last few months. “I got an x-ray about three or four weeks ago and they were saying that it should be healed within four weeks,” he said. “We're coming up to that mark now so finally, I should be able to play without the brace.”
