Examining the 20-year-old's playstyle and how he can affect the game for good
It’s not easy to replace Riqui Puig, especially during a game where you need points. Coach Greg Vanney called 20-year-old midfielder Jonathan Pérez to come into the game as the Galaxy were down by two goals in Austin with 10 minutes left in the match.
In those 10 minutes plus stoppage time, LA scored twice and rescued a point to keep the playoff line from growing farther away. Pérez recorded an assist and two chances created during his time on the pitch.
Perez has been called up by the Mexican Youth National Team in the past and played lots of minutes with LA Galaxy II in the last two seasons to help nurture his talent. Prior to his appearance on Sunday, Pérez made six MLS appearances off the bench since the 2021 season. He signed a contract extension until the end of the 2026 MLS season - he’s a player the club believes can develop. Let’s play the tape from Sunday night!
