LA Galaxy carves out a point at home against St. Louis City
Not the ideal result but LA remains unbeaten in their last four games
Rescuing a point after going down 2-0 against the Conference leaders at home should be seen as a victory on most nights during the MLS season. Given the Galaxy’s current placement in the Western Conference standings, it’s a bittersweet moment.
The visitors got on the scoreboard through Samuel Adeniran. The striker was able to take advantage of a low cross in the box that was shot a few yards from goal with no contest. It was a tough half for the home side as City doubled their lead through Joao Klauss in the 28th minute during a transition moment.
The second half saw the Galaxy’s fortunes turn. LA was awarded a penalty and Riqui Puig buried it to cut the deficit in the 58th minute of the game. Adeniran would get his second yellow card of the night following a late tackle on Puig. The Galaxy got the tying goal in the 82nd minute through Billy Sharp. Despite there being nine minutes of additional time, LA couldn’t manage to find the breakthrough.
“Today was a bad start. But we still managed to get a result out of it. We understand though, that in this stretch, that one point at a time is not going to get to. So, we need to be also a little bit more disciplined and a little bit more clinical when we get opportunities to win games and score goals,” said Vanney to reporters after the match.
