LA Galaxy selects two players in 2024 MLS SuperDraft
A quick look at the LA Galaxy's 2024 MLS SuperDraft picks Ethan Brandt and Tucker Lepley
The LA Galaxy selected goalkeeper Ethan Brandt and midfielder Tucker Lepley in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft. LA didn’t have their natural first pick (Micheal Barrios trade) and used their second-round pick to acquire the rights to Miguel Berry earlier in the day.
With the 46th overall pick, LA selected Brandt to add depth at the goalkeeper position. The Torrance, CA native finished the 2023 season with 69 saves, 16 goals allowed, and 10 shutouts in 22 games for Western Michigan. He put up an impressive save percentage of 82%.
The Galaxy currently has Jonathan Bond and Novak Micovic as goalkeepers on the roster. Brandt can be part of LA’s MLS Next squad; espically since it will represent the LA Galaxy in the 2024 U.S. Open Cup. Brandt would be a good option as LA’s third ‘keeper.
With their 62nd overall pick, the Galaxy selected midfielder Tucker Lepley from UCLA. He recorded 11 goals and 10 assists in 45 career games with the Bruins - he received First Team Pac-12 honors. He previously attended 2 MLS preseason training camps with Sporting KC.
With how stacked the LA Galaxy midfield is, Lepley would likely get playing time with LA Galaxy II in MLS Next Pro. The Charlotte native continues to stay in the LA area and develop with the LA Galaxy.
These options won’t be starters on the LA Galaxy but can contribute to the second team if they stay. It will be interesting what happens to the pair of players when the 2024 MLS season commences.
