The LA Galaxy turbulent 2023 season is officially over following loss to FC Dallas
It wasn't a great night on the pitch to wrap up the campaign
The LA Galaxy’s 2023 season ended with a 4-1 loss in front of over 22,000 fans at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday night. LA ended their campaign in 13th place in the Western Confrence with 36 points. The first half decided the fate of this game quickly.
The visitors got on the scoreboard through Bernard Kamungo in the fourth minute of the game. He times his run well and finishes a one-on-one chance against Novak Micovic.
They doubled their lead in the 13th minute through full back Ema Twumasi. His strike at the edge of the box was untouched by any players and found the back of the net.
Julian Aude was forced to leave the game early due to injury and Raheem Edwards entered the game and provided an offensive impact. He dribbled on the end line and a light chip from an acute angle at the near post found the back of the net.
It wouldn’t take long for Dallas to extend their lead. Kamungo found the back of the net in the 29th minute. He was subbed off due to injury for Jader Obrian and he got on the scoresheet at the end of first-half stoppage time. This was the first time the Texas side scored four goals in MLS play.
LA couldn't find another goal in this game and left the pitch with boos from the home crowd right after the final whistle was blown.
“Just a lot of emotions today. It's been a challenging year. It's been a grind. We've had a lot of guys sacrifice physically over the course of the season who have taken injuries. Some, most for the first time, and having to do that, losing those guys because they know how much they care about it and they care about the group and they wanted to be successful. They sacrificed,” said an emotional Greg Vanney postgame.
The highs and lows
There is no doubt about it; this MLS season had the Galaxy being occupied by so many different things at once. A fan boycott, transfer ban, and injuries prevented this season from ever truly developing consistency on the pitch.
“I've talked to multiple GMs and technical directors and other coaches. Like you guys have had the s*** you can't get in five years, you've had it in one year, and what a challenge. That's the facts,” Vanney told reporters.
