Yoshida’s Paycut
Maya Yoshida, who captained the LA Galaxy to MLS Cup, made $839,334 in 2024. Yoshida signed a new two-year contract this offseason, and per the 2025 MLSPA Salary Guide, he will make $526,281. Yoshida played in every game last season and was key to LA's Championship season.
The LA Galaxy captain valued having a two-year deal in his contract rather than getting just a one-year deal. Yoshida joined the Galaxy midway through the 2023 season.
“It’s very unfair, to be honest,” Yoshida told Kevin Baxter of the Los Angeles Times. “I become a champion and my salary is less. Everybody knows this shouldn’t happen.”
